The Molson Library & Resource Centre

The Molson Library and Resource Centre was donated by the Molson Family Foundation and Cynthia Molson Baxter.

The library at Ashbury College is a spacious, bright and welcoming place that serves the entire school from Grades 4 through 12. It seats approximately 80 students and features wireless access and a comfortable studying area and reading environment.

There are also project rooms available for small group study. Two qualified teacher librarians and a library technician staff the library. Their main objective is to ensure that students acquire and develop the information literacy skills necessary to achieve academic success in school and to navigate our increasingly information-driven society. The library partners with teaching staff to meet the requirements of the curriculum and to support classroom information and research needs. Library staff are always available to work on an individual basis with students.

Research resources are available in both print and digital format and include books, magazines, newspapers, films, etc. Most of the subscription databases and encyclopedias may be accessed via the Internet from home. In addition, the collection supports the recreational reading interests of its students, including bestsellers and high interest series.

Special events during the year include the Forest of Reading, Kids Lit Quiz and book talks.

The Creative Learning Centre

The Creative Learning Centre is a recent addition to the school facilities.  The first floor is home to the music department offering two specially designed classrooms, practice rooms, a digital music facility and instrument storage. Adjacent to the music facilities is the Innovation Lab/Maker Space where students explore the use of a 3-D printer and work with robotics. The Learning Commons sits on the floor of the Creative Learning Centre.  It is a bright and welcoming multi-purpose space that offers both an informal learning area and a more formal classroom setting.  Both areas are used by students, classes, and teachers, as well as for special events.  The furnishings have been selected to support flexible and collaborative learning.  Finally, the top floor belongs to the art department.  It includes three spacious, light-filled art studios, a kiln room, digital photography space, and a variety of media technology equipment such as large format printers, DSLR cameras, and iPads.
