Admissions Process
Each year we encourage students who exhibit the following characteristics to apply to Ashbury College: proven academic achievement, demonstrated commitment and involvement in a variety of co-curricular activities, a positive attitude and the motivation to succeed, leadership potential and the desire to achieve their personal best.
Ashbury's Junior School welcomes girls and boys from Grades 4 to 8, with the main entry points at Grades 4 and 7. Our Senior School, for young men and women, enrolls day and boarding students from Grades 9 to 12, with the main entry points being Grade 9 for day students and Grade 9, 10 and 11 for boarding students. We do not accept students in Grade 12.
Junior School Grades 4-8
Each year the Junior School admits new girls and boys to one Grade 4 class and two Grade 7 classes. Although few girls and boys leave the Junior School before graduation, applications for Grades 5, 6 and 8 are kept on file in the event that places become available.
The Junior School offers First Round Admissions in December by applying in October and November. Students not admitted in December will have their applications brought forward for consideration in our Second Round of Admissions which will be in March. Over 90% of all spaces are offered in the First Round Admissions, as are the Entrance Scholarships and 80% of our Bursaries.
Please note that an ongoing pilot project is in place for Grade 7 students where a limited number of positions are available for the French Social Studies home room. This class is for students who wish to experience additional exposure to French conversation beyond regular French lessons. Students who commit to the French Social Studies are grouped for Home Form periods, as well as science classes in order to give them more opportunities for instruction in French.
At Ashbury College we accept day and boarding students into our Senior School.
Day students are admitted into Grade 9. Our day program often fills by December, so we advise you to apply early (September through early November) for entry the following September. Although we do accept applications year round, over 90% of our spaces are filled in our day program by December, during our first round of admissions, for the following September. All Entrance Scholarships are offered in the first round, as are over 80% of our Bursaries. We do consider applications for Grades 10 and 11 although spaces are very limited and offers will not be made until March. We do not accept students into Grade 12.
Boarding students are admitted into Grade 9, 10 and 11. We do not accept students into Grade 12. Our boarding program has a rolling admissions process; students are enrolled throughout the year, however, our boarding residence is often filled by early March. Our facilities include a 50 bed residence for girls, completed in September 2007, and a 50 bed residence for boys, completed in September 2009. Both facilities are state-of-the-art, wireless and have ensuite bathrooms, including two sinks for double occupancy rooms. Grade 9, 10 and 11 students often share a room with one other student from another country to broaden their international experience. Grade 12 students often have single rooms. Both residences are located on our beautiful 13-acre campus in the heart of Rockcliffe Park minutes from downtown Ottawa, and include a full kitchen, common areas, games room, work out space, study rooms, laundry facilities, storage and plenty of natural light.
